Activity Overview 

Pharmacists in a variety of settings do not routinely provide palliative pharmaceutical care.  As a result, many practitioners are unaware of the medications,  doses used, the atypical dosage forms and routes of administration that may be necessary for this population are not seen in other patient populations.  With more information  pharmacists can become more familiar with these special requirements and improve the care provided to these patients.   

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

These activities were planned to meet the educational needs of pharmacists who practice with patients having severe life threatening illness. 

After participating in this CPE activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss pharmacotherpy for pain management in the palliative care population.
  • Identify strategies for analgesia in patients with comorbid opioid use disorder and serious illness.
