Activity Overview
These activities were presented as part of the 2025 Midyear Clinical Meeting. Learners who claimed ACPE credit for these activities as part of that meeting should not claim ACPE credit again.
The Intensive Studies Package is intended for board-certified pharmacists in need of recertification credit and is designed based on the content outline developed by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS). Using a case-based approach, the activities provide high-level, interactive discussions on contemporary and emerging issues in pharmacotherapy.
The Pharmacotherapy Intensive Studies Recertification Package consists of 4 activities (see table below) and provides up to 6.0 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education and/or recertification credit.
These activities are part of the ASHP professional development program for BCPS recertification approved by BPS.
Accreditation

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education with Commendation.
Target Audience
These recertification activities are intended for board certified pharmacists seeking to update their knowledge and skills in:
- Managing menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, genitourinary syndrome of menopause, and mood disturbances COPD management strategies
- Comprehensive management of cardiovascular risk factors among people with HIV
- Developing institutional pathways/protocols to minimize cardiovascular risk in the perioperative setting.
- Pharmacogenomics amongst health system pharmacists
Recertification Credit
Board-Certified pharmacists are eligible to receive up to 6.0 contact hours of recertification credit for completing this course. To earn recertification credit, learners must review the course content and successfully complete the online assessments by the deadline.
ASHP provides an opportunity for remediation. Participants who are unsuccessful with the first assessment attempt may take a second assessment. The second assessment is included at no additional cost.

Don't Forget the HeART - Managing Cardiovascular Risk Among People with HIV

- Identify the pharmacological and non-pharmacological risk factors contributing to increased cardiovascular risk among people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
- Develop person-centered care plans to manage chronic conditions, such as dyslipidemia, to reduce cardiovascular risk among people with HIV.
- Implement strategies to improve chronic disease management of people with HIV within clinical practice.

Perioperative Cardiovascular Management for Noncardiac Surgery

- Apply evidence-based guidelines to assess and manage cardiovascular medication regimens for patients undergoing surgery, considering individual risk factors and surgical procedures.
- Evaluate the need for perioperative adjustment or continuation of antithrombotic therapies based on patient-specific cardiovascular risk and the type of surgery planned.
- Develop a comprehensive plan for perioperative blood pressure and lipid management, including adjustments to antihypertensive and statin therapies in high-risk cardiovascular patients.
- Integrate risk stratification tools to guide clinical decisions in adjusting cardiovascular medications during the perioperative period.
- Implement strategies to monitor and adjust cardiovascular medications in the postoperative period, ensuring appropriate transitions from hospital to home care while preventing adverse outcomes.

An Ace in the Hole: Improving Depression Treatment with Pharmacogenomics

- Identify key gene-drug pairs from pharmacogenomic guidelines and apply pharmacogenomic results to a clinical scenario.
- List sources for reliable pharmacogenetic information and give examples of non-guideline drug-gene interactions.
- Given a patient case, apply knowledge of pharmacogenomics literature and guidelines to interpret and discuss pharmacogenomic results from a lab report.
