Activity Overview

Solid organ transplant pharmacy is a rather niche role of a clinical pharmacist. As a result, many pharmacy students, residents, and even practicing pharmacists are unaware of the possibility of a career in solid organ transplant and what that role looks like. With this information, more learners or pharmacists may be interested in a career in solid organ transplantation.

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education with Commendation.

These activities were planned to meet the educational needs of pharmacy students, residents, and pharmacists who may be unfamilair with the role of a solid organ transplant pharmacist.

After completing this activity, the learner should be able to…

  • Describe Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) accreditation requirements.
  • Describe variations in the role of a clinical transplant pharmacist.
  • Discuss other potential clinical transplant pharmacist career paths.
