Activity Overview

The cold chain plays a pivotal role in maintaining the potency and safety of temperature-sensitive medications, vaccines, and biologics from production to administration. Pharmacists understand the significance of adhering to strict temperature control guidelines to safeguard patient health and minimize risk to the organization. Pharmacists need to stay at the forefront of pharmaceutical cold chain management practices and evolving medicines requiring ultra-cold temperature storage to ensure safe and effective medications are delivered to patients now and in the future.

In this informative session, health system leaders will share their perspectives from the ASHP Executive Forum on Cold Chain Management series which explored the current state and challenges around cold chain management, health system design to optimize cold chain management, and preparing for the future of cold chain management. Key recommendations from the forums which included representatives from health systems, specialty pharmacies, wholesalers, distributors, pharmaceutical manufacturers, GPOs, regulatory agencies, federal pharmacy, and other stakeholders will be presented.
