Activity Overview

This course is intended for BCACPs in need of recertification credit and is designed based on the content outline developed by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) to provide an overview of recent standards and guidelines that specialists should be familiar with in practice. 

This online activity is approved for 5.0 hours of continuing pharmacy education credit and/or recertification credit.

Accreditation

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education with Commendation.
The American College of Clinical Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as providers of continuing pharmacy education.

Target Audience

The target audience for this course is clinical pharmacists with an interest in statistics and trial design, clinical pharmacists who plan to sit for a BPS specialty exam, and clinical pharmacists wishing to earn recertification credit in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy.

Recertification Credit

Board certified pharmacists are eligible to receive up to 5.0 hours of recertification credit for completing this workshop. To earn recertification credit, learners must review the course content and successfully complete the online assessments by the deadline. Only completed assessments will be eligible for credit; no partial or incomplete assessments will be processed. You are allowed only one attempt to successfully complete this assessment.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this CPE activity, learners should be able to:

  • Describe hypothesis testing and state the meaning of and distinguish between p values and confidence intervals, and measures of central tendency and data spread.
  • Delineate the key attributes of study variables (study data) and the primary levels/categories of data measurement (give examples of each). Develop examples of converting data from one level/category to another.
  • Determine why a statistical test is appropriate or not appropriate, given the sample distribution, data type, and study design. Interpret statistical and clinical significance for results from commonly used statistical tests.
  • Differentiate and recognize the designs and structures of key studies utilized in medical publications.
  • Define and interpret key study-related concepts and terms.
  • Describe and calculate the most important epidemiological terms associated with healthcare and research.
  • Describe and calculate the key terms associated with healthcare screenings.

This activity consists of audio and slides, a PDF book chapter, an attestation statement, and an activity evaluation. Learners must review all content and complete the attestation statement and evaluation to receive continuing pharmacy education credit for the activity.
