Pharmacists providing care for patients with depression face countless treatment options. Many patients may not respond to traditional pharmacotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. As a result, many pharmacists are unaware of and do not practice according to the most current guidelines and literary evidence. With the most current information and effective practice strategies, pharmacists can improve their treatment of patients with neuropsychiatric needs.
The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education with Commendation.
After completing this activity, the learner should be able to…
- Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using ketamine and esketamine for depression.
- Identify patients who are good candidates for ketamine and esketamine.
- Describe dosing, routes of administration, and monitoring considerations for ketamine and esketamine.
