Overview
The curriculum of the Formulary Management Training Program is designed for pharmacists who currently have, or are preparing to assume, responsibilities related to formulary management and other pharmacy & therapeutics (P&T) committee functions. The Formulary Management Training Program addresses the following topics:
- Fundamentals of the FDA drug approval process
- The formulary lifecycle, including formulary maintenance
- Drug monographs and therapeutic class reviews
- Therapeutic equivalence and interchange, and drug substitution
- Medication use policies and clinical practice guidelines
- Medication use evaluations
- Using evidence to make formulary recommendations
- Formulary considerations for high-cost medications
- Impact of third-party payer drug coverage on formulary decision-making
- Formularies in the outpatient clinic setting
- Formulary considerations related to sites of care
- Managing non-formulary medications
- Skills for successful formulary and medication use policy leaders
- Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders throughout the formulary process
Formulary Management Training Program Requirement
Once a learner has completed the educational curriculum, they will have the opportunity to complete an online comprehensive exam. Once the learner passes the exam (minimum 80% passing rate; unlimited attempts permitted), they will earn the statement of completion and Credly badge for the training program.
