Activity Overview
Pharmacogenomics is a key component of precision medicine, enabling medication therapy to be tailored to an individual patient’s genetic profile. Specialty pharmacies are uniquely positioned to incorporate pharmacogenomic insights into medication management through routine patient assessments. However, few specialty pharmacy models have integrated pharmacogenomics into daily workflows. The St. Jude Specialty Pharmacy has successfully implemented this approach. This session will describe the role of specialty pharmacy staff in identifying patients eligible for pharmacogenomic testing and provide practical examples of incorporating pharmacogenomic data into initial and follow-up medication assessments. Because specialty pharmacists regularly review patient medication lists, they are well positioned to identify therapies that may be impacted by pharmacogenomic test results.
