As cell and gene therapies transition from innovation to implementation, health-system pharmacies face unprecedented demands on their infrastructure, operations, and strategic planning. This panel discussion brings together leaders with real-world experience in building pharmacy systems to support these transformative therapies. Panelists will explore the multidisciplinary infrastructure required—including committee development, procurement pathways, cold-chain storage, IT integration, and financial modeling. The discussion will also delve into the complex reimbursement and payer landscape, highlighting real conversations with payers and key considerations across different state regulations. Attendees will gain practical insights into navigating the evolving environment of cell and gene therapies within health systems and leave with strategies for aligning clinical, operational, and financial readiness.

This activity was planned to meet the educational needs of health-system pharmacists, including clinical pharmacists, pharmacy leaders, and pharmacy informaticists, who are involved in the planning, implementation, or delivery of cell and gene therapies within hospital or integrated health system settings.
After completing this activity, the learner should be able to:
Identify key infrastructure components necessary for the successful implementation of cell and gene therapies within a health-system pharmacy.
Explain the business and operational considerations unique to advanced therapy workflows, including patient identificaiton, procurement/storage, and cross-departmental collaboration.
Discuss the reimbursement and payer landscape for cell and gene therapies, including emerging models and common challenges in engaging payers.
