Activity Overview

Pharmacists providing care to patients with anaphylaxis are faced with updated guidelines and evolving standards of care. As a result, many providers are unaware of and do not practice according to the most current guidelines and standards. With increased knowledge and implementation of practice strategies, pharmacists can recommend effective and improve the treatment and monitoring of patients with anaphylaxis.

Anaphylaxis is an acute, life-threatening allergic reaction with an estimated prevalence of approximately 2% in the United States. Prompt recognition of anaphylaxis is necessary for appropriate treatment. This activity will review the pathophysiology, clinical presentation and management of anaphylaxis. The material will be targeted at pharmacists. A review of guidelines and current literature will be provided.
