Activity Overview 

Healthcare professionals caring for pediatric patients have demonstrated inadequate application of the concepts of PALS algorithms, which are essential for providing life-saving care. Studies have demonstrated that pharmacists are inconsistently involved in pediatric code response across various institutions, but that they have more favorable attitudes towards responding to these events when they feel they have had adequate training.

Target Audience

This activity will focus on bedside management of children experiencing dysrhythmias with and without a pulse, as recommended by Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) algorithms

Learning Objectives

After participating in this CPE activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the common causes of cardiopulmonary arrest in children.
  • Identify key differences in ACLS and PALS algorithms.
  • Explain the role of the pharmacist on the resuscitation team.
