This activity was planned to meet the educational needs of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who practice in hospitals and health systems.

Activity Overview

It’s important to reflect on how the pandemic was managed, as well as how a future event might pan out. This activity will review which agencies were responsive, how to obtain reliable information/data, and barriers encountered. The response of the various regulators and accrediting bodies will be explained. The activity will conclude with a discussion of key points to consider when managing a crisis, including developing a plan/template to guide personnel through a future event.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to

  1. Explain how the COVID-19 pandemic differs from other emergency management situations.
  2. Describe how to integrate pandemic-related changes in procedures taking into account how such changes may affect individual departments in the health system.
  3. Summarize strategies for managing the supply chain that minimize the impact on patient care.
  4. Explain best practices for sterile compounding during the COVID-19 pandemic in practice.
