Overview

ASHP and Accreditation Services is monitoring the current COVID-19 pandemic and managing, to the extent possible, disruptions to residency training and accreditation activities. ASHP is committed to supporting pharmacy residency programs during this unprecedented time. This activity will describe the experiences of two pharmacy residency program directors in different parts of the US. Join us as they describe some of the unique challenges and opportunities encountered when a global pandemic interrupts the typical residency year.

Learning Objectives:

After completing this activity, the learner should be able to…

  1.    Discuss the unique challenges and opportunities experienced by pharmacy residency programs during the COVID-19 global pandemic.
  2.    Describe strategies for modifying resident learning experiences in a changing healthcare environment.
  3.    Identify opportunities to support pharmacy preceptors' and residents' well-being and resilience during a time with unusual and unanticipated stressors.
  4.    Describe challenges for successful residency completion and finding new ways to celebrate graduation.
  5.    Discuss unique challenges with orienting and onboarding new residents with social distancing.
  6.    Identify potential strategies for future recruitment and facilitating resident interviews during the pandemic.
