Activity Overview

A thorough understanding of the complexities of specialty pharmacy processes can be the key differentiator between a successful or unsuccessful pharmacy operation. This module is written to outline some of the additional facility, workflow, and reporting obligations that a specialty pharmacy will require to be successful.

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

Target Audience

Each individual activity module is intended for pharmacists and/or pharmacy technicians who wish to expand their knowledge and/or competency in a specific topic area. 

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the basic facility requirements for a fully operational specialty pharmacy.
  2. Identify the key elements of both the front-end and back-end workflow for specialty pharmacy.
  3. Describe the reporting sources and utilization of common specialty pharmacy data sets.

To verify that you have completed the required steps and to ensure your credits have been reported to CPE Monitor, we encourage you to check your NABP CPE Monitor eProfile account to validate your credits were transferred successfully before the 60-day deadline.   After the 60 day deadline, ASHP will no longer be able to award credit for this activity.
