Activity Date: May 15, 2020

Overview

Moderated by ASHP Consulting, this activity will describe the evolution of CMS policy and regulations that have occurred due to the COVID-19 public health emergency and how they impact pharmacy ambulatory practice in hospitals, clinics and FQHCs.

CMS policy and rulemaking has been dramatic and evolving in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Due to the rapidly changing environment in response to provider and beneficiary needs, changes by CMS have been rapid and ongoing.  It is clearly challenging to stay abreast of changes and their impact on the new and unusual practice of pharmacists in caring for their patients.  This session will provide guidance to organizations and practitioners in understanding and interpreting CMS rule changes, with a focus on telehealth services. Recognizing the need of ASHP members, a 30-minutepresentation will be followed by a 30-minute attendee question and answer session.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe CMS rule changes and how they have evolved over time from early March to a final rule released May 8, 2020.
  • Discuss interpretation of rule sections that particularly impact pharmacist practices.
  • Discuss intent of CMS rule-making to aid adopting changes into ambulatory pharmacist practice.
  • Present and describe the billing codes to be utilized by organizations and supervising providers available for reimbursement of pharmacist provided telehealth services.
